The George Golf Course is a beautifully manicured 18 hole layout, offering a classic par 72 experience.

Nestled at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, the course combines tree lined fairways, smooth greens, and scenic views that make every round memorable.

It’s a layout that challenges seasoned golfers while still being enjoyable for players of all levels.

5. For ladies, the course ratings are as follows:

79.8 (Yellow), 77.8 (White), 75.6 (Blue), and 73.1 (Red) & 68.3 (Green) based on the same tee distances.

2. Course Rating Outward

Par 36 Yellow 3142 White 2992 Blue 2835 Red 2627 & Green 2258.

4. For men, the course ratings are as follows:

73.2 from the Yellow tees (6162m), 71.2 from the White tees (5865m), 69.8 from the Blue tees (5566m), 67.8 from the Red tees (5157m) & 63.9 from the Green tees (4477m).

Course Etiquette

1. Pace

Playtime is limited to 4 hours 20 minutes (2 hours per nine and 20 minutes at halfway). Please keep pace with the group ahead.

3. Care

Please fill divots and repair pitch marks on greens.

2. Etiquette

A maximum of 4 players per tee time. One golf bag per person. Compulsory sand bag per player.

From Kiewiet’s Nest to 120 Years of Golfing Excellence

George Golf Club, established in 1906, has evolved from humble beginnings on farmland into one of South Africa’s premier parkland courses. The current 18 hole layout, designed in the 1930s by Charles Murray, has remained largely unchanged apart from key updates like a bunker overhaul in the 1990s. Over the years, the club has hosted RAF officers, international teams, and seen various enhancements to its facilities while preserving its classic charm. Consistently ranked among the top courses in the country, George Golf Club is celebrated for its heritage, scenic beauty, and standout holes, especially the iconic 17th.

18 Ways to Play

Hole 1
Hole 1
A visually appealing par 4 with a dam on the left and trees on the right. A strategically placed bunker complicates the approach.
Hole 2
Hole 2
A long par 5 that doglegs left. Tee shot navigates tree cover, followed by a challenging long iron third to reach the green.
Hole 3
Hole 3
Requires a precise drive to avoid trees right and a bunker left. The undulating green brings tricky pin placements into play.
Hole 4
Hole 4
Short par 4 where fairway bunkers flank both sides. A long iron or fairway wood off the tee sets up a manageable approach.
Hole 5
Hole 5
With mature trees on the right, a drive down the left gives a clear path to the large green ahead.
Hole 6
Hole 6
The only par 3 on the front nine. A bunker left and a mound right make missing the green a likely penalty.
Hole 7
Hole 7
A downhill dogleg par 4 with a striking mountain backdrop. It’s the course’s hardest (stroke 1) hole.
Hole 8
Hole 8
A dogleg right par 4. Favors tee shots to the right of the bend, with trees and bunkers surrounding the green.
Hole 9
Hole 9
One of the tougher par 4s. Miss the tree line right or hazard left off the tee, and the approach is straightforward.
Hole 10
Hole 10
Fairway flanked by large trees both sides. Out of bounds comes into play at the green if the drive is pulled left.
Hole 11
Hole 11
A par 5 with an out of bounds fence down the entire left side. A good drive leads to a simple approach.
Hole 12
Hole 12
Drives tend to feed right. Tee off left to avoid trees, seek local tips for reading the green’s subtle breaks.
Hole 13
Hole 13
The shortest par 3 on course, yet tight slopes on the green make this deceptively difficult. Accuracy is key.
Hole 14
Hole 14
A par 5 where drives should stay well right. Middle fairway access awards long hitters an eagle chance.
Hole 15
Hole 15
An elevated tee shot waiting above a wide green. A peaceful hole with strategic reward, great chance for birdie.
Hole 16
Hole 16
Back nine’s final par 5. Avoid the fairway bunker and consider laying up, approach shots are guarded by a green bunker.
Hole 17
Hole 17
The signature par 3. An elevated tee to an offset green beside a valley and dam. Ranked among the world’s top 500 par 3s.
Hole 18
Hole 18
The toughest hole on the back nine. A fairway feeding toward a dam and thick bushes. Errant shots right may end in the infamous “snake pit.”
